The Texas Rangers were founded in 1823 by Stephen F. Austin, years before Texas declared independence from Mexico and became an Independent and Sovereign Republic. Austin created his own small troop of Rangers to patrol the roads and wilderness around his colony. During the Texas Revolution in 1836, the provisional government authorized the first official, government-sanctioned Ranger force to scout the Texas frontier and safeguard settlers. The Rangers won recognition as the most efficient way to protect the Texas frontier.
The framed handcrafted Texas Rangers Individual Company flag design is based on a historic photograph from 1878 in the collection of the Texas Ranger Museum which captured an insignia on a tent at an encampment of Company C at Fort Griffin north of present-day Albany, Texas.
The hand painted red company letter in the blue star can be individualized for
each Texas Ranger Company. The elite Texas Rangers are divided in 6 companies A through F protecting the various counties across Texas.
