Description

Texas has the distinction of being the only state that was an Independent Country for nine years. The Republic of Texas was recognized as an Independent & Sovereign Country by the United States as well as other World Powers. The Republic of Texas issued $100 and $500 ornately engraved bonds on unbelievably fine paper. The bonds marked Government of Texas were issued from Houston the original capital of the Republic of Texas, while the Bonds marked Republic of Texas were issued from Austin the permanent capital of the Republic of Texas.

Investors who owned these bonds would make regular visits to their banks to cut out and redeem the coupons and collect their interest, so the wealthy citizens of this era became known as “Coupon Clippers.”
