The Republic of Texas circulated its own richly engraved currency for nine years, until becoming the 28th State in 1845. This group of 10 individual antique replica Republic of Texas banknotes includes all nine denominations that were originally issued, as well as the ornate reverse that appeared on most notes, which gave the notes their nickname of “red backs.” Printed on unbelievably fine paper, originals of these notes are quite scarce today, and a collection of originals that would match these replica notes is worth well over $5,000.
