The Texas Rangers were founded in 1823 - fourteen years before Texas' independence from Mexico was even declared. Their skill soon won them recognition as the most efficient and least expensive way to protect the Texas frontier, thin out desperados, bring in cattle rustlers and bootleggers and restore order in boom towns. Their traditions, toughness, and esprit de corps quickly won the Rangers worldwide fame and continuing respect.
The pay voucher reads: "I certify that Leroy Bogguss joined my company of the ranging corps on the 28th day of May A.D. 1836 and that he served therein as a private from that time until the 30th day of June 1836 and that he has performed his duties faithfully & promptly and is hereby honourably discharged" and is signed by S.C. Robertson, Capt. of Rangers.
It appears that Leroy's pay for service in the Texas Rangers was computed as $42.96.
