To finance the construction of a grand State Capitol, the Texas Legislature appropriated 3,000,000 acres in the panhandle. This became the XIT ranch - the largest fenced ranch, and one of the most famous, in the world. X was for the Roman numeral ten, since the land was spread across ten counties In Texas.
The ranch was operated by a group of wealthy English investors known as the Capitol Freehold Land & Investment Company. This selection is an exact restrike of the exceedingly rare Partnership Certificate and is paired with a vintage photograph of the Texas Capitol–still the largest in the United States and taller than the Federal Capitol.
