Drawn by the United States War Department for the U.S. State Department, this map records the boundaries of the Republic of Texas as recognized by the American government. Texas extended through the Colorado Rockies up to the 42nd parallel, and included Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Taos, and where Aspen, Vail and Winter Park are now.
This very rare map was produced for the treaty negotiations that made Texas the 28th State in 1845. A table records the populations of the principal towns, including Houston (4,500) Austin (200) San Antonio (1,500) and Nacogdoches (600).
